Anthony

Bibere humanum est, ergo bibamus.
To drink is human, let us therefore drink.

1874 AD - The Roman World

New space technology allowed the Romans to make a map of the geography of the entire World.

Respice post te,
mortalem te esse memento.

Look around you,
remember that you are mortal.

 SEVERUS
"The true interest of an absolute monarch generally coincides with that of his people. Their numbers, their wealth, their order, and their security, are the best and only foundations of his real greatness; and were he totally devoid of virtue, prudence might supply its place, and would dictate the same rule of conduct. Severus considered the Roman Empire as his property, and had no sooner secured the possession, than he bestowed his care on the cultivation and improvement of so valuable an acquisition."

-- Sir Edward Gibbon, Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire

1874 AD - Retirement

Caesar retired to his Villa in Rome.  As he wrote his Memoirs, he realized how many twists and turns history makes, how different it might have been, and how unknown the future really is.

Acta est fabula, plaudite!
The play is over, applaud!

BEGINNING with the generation first
Of mortal men down to the very last
I'll prophesy each thing: what has been,
And what is now, and what shall yet befall
The world through the impiety of men.

The Sibylline Oracles
The Sibyl's prophesy.
