4000 BC
Settling Down

Before rushing into the game, first look carefully at the position. A few things of note. There are no rivers, but there is some grassland. If we build our city on this hill, we will have a chance to defend our capital if things should turn out badly on this deity level game. There are furs in the forest nearby, which we should develop quickly. We will found our capital, Salamanca, here.

4000 BC
Initial Orders

We command Salamanca to build a second scout, then a warrior. We set taxes to 80% - 20% - 0%  (Gold - Science - Luxuries), with science just high enough to start the research process. We may change this later to just 10% Science, or even 0%, and buy obsolete technologies from AI rivals. Much later in the game, we hope to to take the lead in technology.

The Big Picture

The astronomical observations of our philosophers tell us that we are far to the north. Further north the land is liable to dead-end in tundra and frozen mountains. We should scout to the south and look for fertile lands and other civilizations.

4000 BC
Huts

We move our worker to the shield in the southeast, which is already being used by the people of Salamanca. First, we mine for the extra shield, then we'll build the road. When the worker moves, he reports the existence of huts further south. We will send our scout to investigate further.
