Wir wanderten über Stock und Stein
We wandered over hill and dale

2550 BC
Flood Plains

To the northwest of Berlin are fertile flood plains. We will place our new town, Hamburg, along the Elbe River, next to the gold, and near enough to the elephants for ivory. With the food from the flood plains, Hamburg's population will expand rapidly.

Meanwhile, our new archer will seek out and destroy barbarian encampments in the north.

2550 BC
Natural Barriers

At the far west extent of our exploration, a huge mountain range and two seas act as a natural barrier. We may be able to use these barriers to establish defenses against invasion.

2270 BC
German Homeland

Our warriors have finally found the Russian homeland in the south. The beginnings of the German nation are taking shape. We are unopposed in the north. By rapid and proper placement of our towns, we will claim our rightful heritage.

Strategic Considerations: It is important to take a pause at this point in the game to consider the situation. Should we start an early war of conquest? Should we try to build peaceably? The Russians are far to the south. The land is wide open for settlement. No one has arrived from the north. If we are careful, we can limit the Russians to the south and claim all the northern lands for Germany. We need to guarantee control around the vicinity of Berlin, but we should also build a town to the west to block the Russians from reaching the northwestern peninsula of the continent. We will not trade maps at this point in the game. With speed and luck, our rivals may never know of the northern lands.
